Tech Tip: Heating and Cooling Glass

Glassware

GlasswareSplattering and shattering are hazards when working with liquids and glassware in your lab. To maintain safety, heat all liquids slowly. Fast heating causes bumping, which may cause the solution to splatter.

Also, cool labware slowly to prevent breakage. Placing hot glassware on cold or wet surfaces or cold labware on hot surfaces may cause the glass to shatter.
